Eleanor Stredder was the daughter of upholsterer Edward Stredder and his wife Mary (nee Abbott) and was one of five children- herself, William, Ann, Sarah and Harriet.None of the Stredder children married and, after her parents died, Eleanor lived with one or other of her siblings for the rest of her life.Eleanor wrote for various periodicals and also wrote a number of novels, the earliest being The Raven of Redruth (1862).

Later in life she wrote a series of novels set in the Colonies, South Africa and India. As well as her own novels she also co-wrote, with her sisters Sarah and Harriet Shrouded in Mystery (1901).She died in Hertfordshire in 1913.Gerry WolstenholmeMarch 2013
